Hair loss and balding is an issue that unfortunately cannot be prevented; however modern science has made it possible to treat it and help promote re-growth. Recent hair replacement treatments have recorded positive dramatic results for some people. Treatment can be in the form of buying a wig or undergoing major surgery, but hair transplant surgery is the only known form to have had good success rate in hair re-growth.
Hair Transplant
Generally, a person loses and restores an average of 100 strands of hair per day. However, when a person notices excessive hair loss it can create fear and panic. Most people who suffer from hair loss generally feel depressed, stressed and unattractive. In some cases patients have gone as a far as changing their identity as a result of their hair loss One available type of hair replacement treatment can help restore balance in the person's life, such as hair transplant surgery.
This is a more invasive procedure, which works on transplanting densely covered sites on the scalps to the bald areas. The success rate depends upon whether there are enough densely covered areas for this treatment to be effective. However, if hair loss is so severe leaving too much bald scalp area, then hair replacement may not be possible. In such cases scalp reduction surgery would be beneficial. This involves removing large sections of the bald scalp, then using extenders and expanders to stretch the hair-bearing region of the scalp.
Wigs
Though hair replacement is available in a variety of forms; for a quick and easy cover-up, the most popular form is to purchase a wig. Wigs have been used for many years and have constantly changed in style. King Louis XIII of France pioneered wig wearing for men in 1620, a trend which has since continued over the years. This for some people does not resolve the issue of hair loss and only conceals what is evidently still present. Therefore, others would naturally feel more comfortable going through more invasive procedures for promoting hair re-growth, regardless of the cost.
Prescription drugs and Herbal treatments
Hair replacement treatments can sometimes be a very daunting prospect and some people have sought other means of treatment that is non-invasive. The most popular topical treatment in the U.S is Minoxidil. This was originally an oral drug used to treat patients with high blood pressure, for this reason there is no sufficient explanation on how this drug works. However, it has is recorded to work better on those who are younger and have recently suffered from hair loss.
The results of using minoxidil varies, from a small percentage seeing moderate hair growth after four months usage, yet a higher percentage have experienced minimal hair growth. The drawbacks of using minoxidil is that those with hair loss on the crown and not at the front are likely to experience some hair growth, and they must continue using the topical treatment permanently otherwise any hair re-growth will be lost.
Unfortunately, herbal remedies have not shown proven abilities to aid hair re-growth.
In fact, shampoos and lotions claiming to have powerful herbal and natural properties to promote hair growth have always failed to deliver. Hair thickening products are good for gaining body and volume, which is more advantageous for women, more than men, but not good for hair re-growth. One thing to keep in mind is that there is no such thing as a secret ingredient that can restore lost hair.
Shaun Parker has researched the various types of hair loss that exist and the hair replacement techniques available to combat them. To find out more please visit http://www.crownclinic.co.uk

How our hair looks can make a big difference in how we feel about ourselves. Hair loss can be a huge blow, and causes many people to turn to hair loss products in a desperate attempt to grow their hair back. However, it can be hard to tell which products are the real deal, and which are just a waste of time and money.
Most people lose fifty to a hundred hairs per day, which are replaced. However, some people lose more than this, or their hair doesn't come back as readily after it is lost. This is called alopecia, and can be caused by many different things.
Some hair loss is caused by an illness, or medical condition, like hormonal problems, liver disease, or lupus. Medications like lithium and some acne pills can make you lose your hair, as can diet pills, and hair loss is a well known side effect of chemotherapy.
Alopecia areata is a disease that causes hair loss on the scalp, and affects 1.7% of all people. It's probably a disorder of the immune system, where the person's own body attacks hair follicles.
Male-pattern baldness is the classic source of hair loss in men. It's mostly caused by hormonal effects, and the severity of this kind of hair loss will be determined by genes. Other causes can include severe hair styling, poor nutrition, and major life events that disrupt the cycle of hair growth.
A plethora of hair loss products are available to sufferers of this problem. Picking the right one and avoiding scams can be pretty difficult, though. Here are some tips to help you identify which products can help, and which ones are just wastes of time.
Look at the ingredients. Most products that are sold as medications list the active ingredient. This allows you to look it up and see if it really does what it claims.
Read the label carefully. Some products claim to make hair fuller or thicker. This is just a cosmetic effect, and doesn't actually help hair grow back.
Look for an address. If the product is only available online, and no manufacturer's address is provided, be suspicious. Real hair loss treatments require facilities to manufacture them.
Check their claims. Hair loss is slow, although it may take some time to notice it. Therefore, growing hair back is also a slow process. If a product promises a full head of hair in no time, it's probably a scam.
Evaluate the safety of your product. While you're looking for effective main ingredients, also check the other ingredients to be sure that nothing in the product could aversely affect your health.
Avoid money back guarantees. No doctor can guarantee any treatment. This means that products that advertise them may not be legitimate medical treatments.
Look for studies. In cases where the main ingredient of a product is a natural substance, rather than one of the two approved hair growth medications (Rogaine and Propecia), see if a study backs up the claims of the manufacturer. Pay attention to dosages and the way the ingredient is administered. An ingredient that's effective when taken orally will do nothing if you put it in shampoo.
There are some products available that will help reduce or reverse hair loss. However, the majority offer only cosmetic improvements, or are merely placebos. Shop carefully, to make sure that you get a product that's safe and effective.
Researching and learning about such health problem as hair loss, Alex Olson became a specialist in this sphere. In her articles at http://www.hairlossproductshelp.com you will find all the necessary information about hair loss, its causes and treatment.

Did you know that over 50 million men, women, and children throughout the world suffer from dandruff and other scalp disorders? That seems like an outrageous number doesn't it? Well, it is because it is also suggested that approximately 40% of the world's population have problems with flaking. Flaking tends to occur when you skin tries to renew itself and becomes out of balance. You dead skin cells will then begin to shed from your scalp at a fast rate. With that said, itching and flaking is just like any other problem, once you acknowledge the problem and start to understand it, then you can start to control the problem.
So you are experiencing some flaking and dry scalp? That's okay; let's start to understand the problem.
Your skin is always under renewal. Your skin cells are always making and building new skin cells to replace the ones that die off. There is certain science that claims the renewal process takes place anywhere from 21 to 24 days. During this time your scalp will start forming new scalp cells. While new cells are being formed, the old cells are shed off. Now, if your scalp has a proper moisture balance, the oils that are secreted from the "sebaceous" glands will start to help out in the exfoliation process. If you experience flaking and itching, then this means that your body's moisture balance has become "out of sync". This will also cause the exfoliation process not to happen at the normal rate.
So what causes this flaking and itching?
Well, there are a number of factors that can trigger the flaking and itching. One of the highest factors would include allergic reactions. It does not matter what it is, if you have an allergic reaction this can cause your body go into an abnormal balance. Most of the cases of allergic reactions come from certain hair sprays, shampoos, and other hair styling products. Other factors causing flakiness would be product residue, illness, hormonal change, and infrequent shampooing of your hair. Emotional stress can also cause some scalp disorders. It can aggravate the dryness of your scalp causing irritation and terrible itching.
Dry scalp and flaking conditions are usually found in a seasonal pattern. Most cases are found in the winter and cold months when the air is much more dry. Any one of the above factors can produce annoying and embarrassing flakes, along with itching scalp issues. It is said that if the irritation and problem goes on longer than three weeks then you should go see a doctor. Hopefully, your problems will be caused be one of the above factors, because if not you could be dealing with some type of scalp disease or worse yet, some type of skin infection.
A few things to remember when trying to prevent these embarrassing problems are to frequently wash and condition your hair. Always remember to read the product labels on shampoos, gels, hair sprays, and other hair styling products. If you have a known allergy relating to any of the ingredients used, then it is probably a good idea to just stay away from the product altogether. Also, you definitely need to be eating a healthy diet. Always get enough sufficient rest, and never try to stress or become stressed over anything if you can help it.

There are a number of temporary treatments for thinning hair and hair loss but for the more severe cases the most successful form of treatment is hair transplant. Whether the person suffering from hair loss is male or female modern techniques make hair transplant an effective alternative to going bald. Hair restoration surgery has been criticized since the first procedure took place in America in the late 1950s.
The main criticism of the procedure has been that the results do not look natural. There are many reasons for unnatural looking results but the prognosis for balding people is good. Modern techniques have developed greatly and now provide results that are so good that hairdressers fail to notice that surgery has been performed. This article is a guide to the surgical procedures that are involved in hair restoration surgery.
Hair transplant surgery can offer a long term solution to hair loss worries. It is important however to recognise that the procedure does not increase the amount of hair on the head but instead re-arranges the existing hairs. It involves removing parts of the scalp that contain hair that is growing, usually from the back of the head, and distributing these hairs in areas that have less growth, usually the front or top of the head.
These skin grafts retain the ability to grow hair and will continue to produce hair wherever they are placed. The end result is dependent on the skill of the surgeon.
The most natural looking results depend on the surgeon using small grafts, between 3 and 6 hairs, and placing them in small slits or pinholes in the recipient area. The greater the number of small grafts the better the results. Modern techniques are sophisticated enough to extract single hair follicles for transplantation. Small grafts require the surgeon to perform more incisions and take more time. As a result of this the procedure can become expensive.
The hair transplantation industry has been criticised in the past for taking short cuts to increase profits. It is important that you avoid crude techniques because these can result in undesirable results. The Punch Graft technique was a technique used in the 80s to harvest donor hair from the back of the head.
The surgeon would remove small circular clumps of hair that were about the size of a pinhead from across the donor area. The theory was that taking small grafts from a large area would be unrecognisable as it would look like the hair was just thinner in this area. However surgeons did not suture the graft areas, instead opting to bandage the area. The result was that the holes healed with scar tissue that left undesirable swiss cheese scarring.
The Pierce Closure technique tried to rectify this problem by making it possible to stitch up the donor site wounds. The surgeon would slice through a line of circular grafts, offset the bridges, and squeeze the skin together into a running lock and seal the skin together. However the procedure was not entirely effective as the edges of skin did not fit together correctly. This left an untidy scar.
Surgeons then attempted techniques that removed the skin between two rows of plug grafts. Again this was an untidy procedure and much of the donor hair was wasted. The industry then moved toward a strip excision technique. Some surgeons used a triple bladed scalpel to remove two strips of donor skin from the scalp. This made the procedure quicker but has been heavily criticised as it is said to be less accurate than a single blade and can destroy more hair follicles.
It has been seen as a crude time saving method that prioritises profits over the well-being of the patient.
The single blade strip excision technique is the most prevalent technique used in the US. It takes a slice of scalp from the back of the head, ear to ear, and the hair follicles are separated and replanted in the recipient area. The donor site can be stitched easily and leaves a thin scar that can be covered by combing the existing hair over the scar.
The procedure is done under local anaesthetic and takes 2-4 hours. There is no standard price list for hair restoration surgery as each procedure is different but depending on the number of grafts required it can cost between 1500 pounds and 10000 pounds.
The treatment can be spread over a few months and a number of different sessions. Occasionally people experience hair loss from the follicles that have been transplanted and most procedures will be supplemented with medicinal treatments.
Shaun Parker has researched the various hair transplants techniques. To find out more see http://www.crownclinic.co.uk
